Awake Thou That Sleepest

Awake Thou That Sleepest

(by Mike Hall inspired by John Wesley’s sermon same)

Asleep in darkness, slumbering naturally, lying in bed and to yourself
When will the morning come and the light shine in,
to convince you you're lost in your sin.

The senses so dulled in the rhyme and reason of life lived empty of anything,
Certainty to speak of you have none but you yourself know not,
Can’t you see how you are caught.

Awake Thou That Sleepest
The hour is coming to rise, He is calling
Calling your soul to stir within
I can’t stop from falling, except through Him.

Fever grips the sickened soul, numbed and accepting of the despair,
Cry out from the nightmare, its past time to awake,
Ask Him your heart, mind, and soul to take.

Christ now has raised you, raised you from your bed of death,
A new creature, a new mind, a heart anew,
Given new eyes with a glimpse of His view.

Awakened Thou That Sleepest
The hour has come to rise, He has called
Called your soul, He is stirring within
I can’t stop from falling in love with Him

A place for Lord to live in my life, a place of meeting and worship.
Once empty hearted, the hole is now filled,
and the whole of worship here is revealed.

I stand in the presence of the King, unblemished and clean
Not of my own, but by the covering,
And thus his praises we forever shall sing.

Awakened Forever, Never to Sleep.
His hour will come, we will rise when you call.
Call those whose soul you stir within,
I can stop falling away by staying in Him.
