In Escapable Light

A flittering tap tap tap on the window.
The light attracts them.
Tap.

Sometimes its the june bugs
 with a little bit louder
thutunk.

Tonight a very large moth has fallen to the inescapable light.

Somehow in its insatiable unreasonable unmet desire for the light,
it has trapped itself between the screen and the window.
Trapped and fluttering -
tap ka tap ka tap tap.
Trapped.

The light that attracted it in the first place
is now just there beyond its reach
and the freedom it surrendered
to pursue the light now gone -
lost.

Trapped between freedom surrendered
and the desire of its heart that led
to this unending tapping trap.

What took you away from your play little one,
what aroused your interest and held it -
fooling you to climb in under the screen
and become so firmly placed.

Now you will be here until you aren't
and trapped before the inescapable light
you so wanted most.
You should have just flown on,
but you wanted more than you were meant for.

Your end began when you saw it and now it comes.
You cannot save yourself
and I know its not worth taking you out
and sending you on your way,
you'd just go happily back to your trap.

"each one is tempted when,
 by his own evil desire,
he is dragged away and enticed.
Then, after desire has conceived,
it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full-grown,
gives birth to death."
James 1:14-15
